Where Surin Island in Thailand

Koh Surin National Park is situated in the Andaman sea approximately 60 km. from the Coast of Phang-Nga Province in the southern peninsula region.

Surin Islands comprise of five main Islands, including 2 large Islands consisting of the Northern Surin Island and Southern Surin Island which is located adjacent to the twin Island. They are separated by the 200 meters width shallow sea. In the low tide period, you can walk across to the other Island or so-called "Cutted Channel Bay" . General Information Surin Island

For many years Mu Koh Surin was an unspoiled group of Islands, acting as a refuge for fishing boats during storms and hosting small communities of sea gypsies. In this situation the Islands provoked little interest and for a long time were recorded as a National Forest Reserve by the Royal Forest Department.

Sea Gypsies or Morgan

The Sea Gypsies or Morgan are a nomadic sea people who live in the Mergui archipelago. Their ancestors came from Indonesia. The name Morgan is from their own language, which is universal to all sea gypsy groups. The Morgan live a very primitive existence and as such have a great respect for nature and the environment.

Surin Islands National Park

Located at Tambol Koh Phra Thong, Kuraburi district, occupies an area of 135 sq.kms or about 84,375 rai. The park comprises Koh Surin Nua, Koh Surin Tai, Koh Ri, Koh Klang and Koh Kani. Along the western coast lie wonderful coral reefs. Blessed with beautiful Bays and fertile tropical forests, the park is ideal for both scuba diving and forest trekking. More important, the Islands are dwellings of sea gypsies. Interesting natural attractions in the park include:

Phak Kaad Bay

Situated near Tao Bay, is blessed with fantastic coral reefs.

Tao Bay

Located at Koh Surin Tai, is a dwelling of sea tortoises. Wonderful coral reefs could be perceived here.

Mangkon Bay

Located at Koh Klang not far from Suthep bay, has fantastic coral reefs. Large lobsters are found here.

Mai Ngam Bay Natural Study Route

Lying on Koh Surin Nua, begins from the park’s office and comes to an end at Mai Ngam Bay where swimming and diving are possible. Coral reefs and varying fish are very attractive
